We are temporary

We are temporary
We may pollute the water
Trash the earth
And turn this world
Into a wasteland

But at least we can take solace
In that we are temporary

A small blemish on the timeline
Something that will be regarded
As the slip-up that was mankind

The trees will take back
What is rightfully theirs
The winds, storms, and seas
Will return high-rises, Wal-Marts, and McDonals
Back to the earth from which they sprouted

Mother Earth will rise up
And she will free the land
From its highway cage
And she will release the plants
From their suburban restrictions
And return them to their untamed state

Our reign of terror will be over
And the earth will heave
A collective sigh of relief,
Because for all the havoc we wreaked
At least we were temporary
