Walls
Walls have been built
To protect what’s inside.
They are meant to hide
That which can’t be found.
Sometimes a window is built
That someone may peer into
At the kindred souls who
They merely thought they knew.
Walls have been built
To hide the imperfections; the pain,
The sorrow, the bloody stain
Of the deep gashes and scars.
The heart cries out in anguish;
Crushed by the weight
Of desolation, anger, and hate;
As the walls smother the soul.
Wearily the heart beats;
For the other side is in sight.
So close, so near is the light
And it stumbles…
I tread upon a sandy shore.
Around me the water swishes.
Beneath my feet the sand squishes;
As I dance upon the river shore.
