Harbinger

My only company in this vast landscape are the terracotta chimneys
and the chittering, chattering, fluttering birds.
The only noises I hear originate far beneath me,
the noises of humanity -- the siren blares and car horn beeps.
Except the hummingbird chirps -- those fly from earth to heavens and back again
encompassing all of in their harbinger's song.
