Fate is a funny thing
Do you believe in fate?
Some believe they were
Brought together by fate
Maybe that's true
But why is love never credited?
Why don't they say that love Brought their lives together?
Instead they thank their lucky stars
Or they recall this little thing
That may or may not exist
Called fate

It doesn't seem fair to me
Love does all the work
So that something else can take the credit
Is it that love is too real?
Or maybe it's not real enough
People fear love
But fate is too unreliable
To frighten anyone

Love is intimidating and powerful
While fate remains undiscovered by some
Unclaimed by others
People avoid difficult confrontation
Taking the high road is all talk
Really all they ever want is an easy way out
A simpler procedure
Or a lighter load

Love is straightforward
But confusing
It leaves you feeling like you're no longer in control
Feeling vulnerable but you enjoy it
How can that be?
How can one person make you feel
Like you hold the world in your arms?
Like nothing else matters
As long as you have their presence

This is why fate is credited
For bringing that person to your side
For all those nights of whispered secrets
And hushed lullablies
For all those days spent apart
That only brought you closer
Not love
Because love is frightening
But losing love is much worse
Fate can take nothing
If you choose to make it nonexistent
