Strong
That familiar face smiles sadly
As he waves goodbye to me.
I hold in my violent cry
And lightly kiss him goodbye.
He puts his hand under my chin
And promises me he will see me again.
I close my eyes as I try not to think,
This is a promise that could break.
He hugs our child and kisses her hair,
Telling her to be safe and to take care.
A tear rolls down from her eye,
As she kisses her dad goodbye.
He waves once and smiles once more
Then stops before he reaches the door.
He turns on his heel to face us two,
And quietly states “I love you.”
Our daughter salutes him as he goes,
He smiles and walks out, dressed in camo.
And then he is gone, and I am full of fear,
Scared of what news we may hear.
But my heart still beats, my daughters beside me,
I must be strong, for
