Summer’s in the air
We got bugs but I don’t care
And soon we’ll be there
On the waves
The sun is everywhere
I got sand in my hair
My leg sticks to the chair
It smells life aftershave

Off we go
To the beach
We gon be riding the waves

We’ll live out our summer days
We lay down towels on the sand
But the wind blew it far and wide
The umbrella pole hit me in the side
And then it became high tide

Lucy Steward is a high school junior in New York City. Her works have been recognized by the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards and appeared in the Authoethnographer, Humans of the World, Poet’s Choice, Sad Girl Diaries, and Teen Ink. A writer, poet, and lover of history she is currently working on her first novel and is constantly slipping into fantasies that feel as real as the world around her.
