Plato's Monster

Are you familiar with Plato’s monster

The human with two heads, four arms, and four legs

Fearing their power

Zeus split them into two separate parts

condemning them to spend their lives in search of their other halves

Our body was broken into two, painful pieces

I still feel the pain of that day

Everytime you are near and everytime you are away

I feel it everytime I see you smile

The pain in my chest that feels like it’s tearing me apart once again

The loneliness of your absence

The longing to be beside you once again

to feel completely content

to feel whole again

When it’s just the two of us

lying on the floor

laughing at nothing

Our hands clasped together

feeling almost as we once were

The author's comments:

I've always been inspired by romantic comedies and my own experiences to write about love, specifically the rare, special kinds that are hard to find but so amazing! This work was written for my partner as a valentines gift, and they loved it so much their enthusiasm encouraged me to keep writing more since then.
