The Voice of a Soldier
It was a chilly night before another battle,
And all I see is the open ground from here.
As I go to fix my horse’s saddle,
I realize that I actually fear.
No one realizes the hardships of a soldier,
What they have to go through in order to survive.
I need someone to rest my head on their shoulder,
As I don’t know how long I’ll be alive.
I have never expressed my feelings previously,
But before the words go away, I want to say it.
I want to say that I love my family.
Especially you, as you were my best fit.
In this war, if I don’t come back,
In this war, if I die,
Remember to always smile like a lilac.
And please, for me, please don’t cry.
I have always wanted to stay,
But I guess my time has come.
And in this war today,
I think that I’m the next victim.
But don’t you worry, I have always loved you.
And throughout this journey of life,
I will never forget the times you were with me.
You will always be the number one wife.
But now, as I look at this view,
I have no choice, but to continue.
I hope I am not in complete rue,
As I have decided to not leave midway.
Now that you’ll be free,
I hope you never forget me.
As today my day has come,
And I am leaving you, all lonely.
