“Ding…ding…ding!” The alarm blares into my ears.

I don’t feel awake, and the world doesn’t either.

Despite my exhaustion,

I am eager.

Lured out of the house by the cool, stuffy air,

I didn’t seem to care.

My hand goes cold from the moist morning dew,

as I grasp the car door handle,

knowing what I must do.

The jingle of the keys sounds like twinkling stars.

The engine begins to grumble like it wants to go far.

Looking in the rearview mirror,

I saw the silhouette of the tiny town.

The grainy gravel crunches,

as the suspension springs up and down.

I roll down the window to smell the new, fresh air.

The car plows through muted green fields,

and accelerating makes the stalks tear.

Sitting on the roof of my car, I see what is out afar.

Roaming around feels like play.

I’ll never stop driving up, up, and away.

This piece is inspired by the freeness of driving and the emotions it can entail. I hope the reader can find comfort in this poem through its descriptive language, story, and rhyme.
