I look out upon a flapping window blossom

drifting, and radiating brilliance, garishly

luring with unfettered wings and unbound body

as though flaunting with all its colors:

you can see me but you can’t have me

Like any other fool, I start chasing, knowing

it’ll just fly away, yet still persisting

With outstretched arms and a fluttering heart

flushed with whimsical fascination,

I take a giant, desperate leap-

a gliding reverie dodges me effortlessly

and I faceplant into the earth empty-handed.

I know, I should’ve known, it was but an impulse.

The butterflies, only nature has them-

captivating and winsome, too swift to hold

a glance, too nimble to catch, They run away

from pursuit. But as you sit, or lie, in a garden

of pollen that makes you sneeze sick
They might just land on you. Fleetingly

as a dream.

Sometimes, a little caprice gets the best of us. Irrationality takes over, prompting you to chase that intangible butterfly, the beauty you so desire. At the end of the day, they don't belong to you, but to nature. You go home and all you can say is "at least I tried".
