"Ac-Cent-Tchu-Ate the Positive" - Aretha Franklin

The church, the hymns, the candlelight, glow
The heartbeats, the laughter, o where do they go?
To dance on the floor, to eat the pillows of baklava,
Follow me, let me teach you what I have been taught, show you what we have to offer
the footsteps on the birch, quicker, quicker, faster, faster; the dances of our ancestors
The language so loud thunder cowers at its might
The love so abundant the heavens sing melodic melodies; infinite symphonies The traditions so old, time was young
Our family tree - her roots strengthen as we blossom from her nurtured branches The white beards pass knowledge to the blooming springtime flowers
The world is not too cold anymore
Decades, centuries, millennium
Heartache, heartbreak, destruction, rubble, crumble
We Will Endure
The church still stands! The handprint embedded in the soil, do you see the grass begin to bud? I am the legacy of their faces,
I am their just before the day-break dreams the fruit of their vines
I am their silent
I am their loud
I am their quiet
I am their proud

This piece explores identity within a community. For me, this community is within the Montenegrin culture and traditions. Traditions have been passed down for centuries, and this builds a family. I want to share this tradition with others in the hopes that they can enjoy this piece.
