Monster
12 years old was when they told her she didn’t belong here
A child who just wanted to wear a hijab to school
And security was almost called
A 10 year old was picked on by his teacher for being Pakistani
A kid who just wanted to go school
2017 was when a neighbor she saw a little “monster”
She ran to separate her child from it
That “monster” was a Mexican little girl
What could have made that woman so enraged or afraid
Of a little Mexican girl to call her a “monster”?
What could possibly be so terrifying about a child?
I was this child like many others
Why were we treated like some sort of monsters?
We are not terrifying, we are not monsters
Let us play, laugh, and live our lives
We are just loving children after all
