an ode to a love i never had
the way your laughter cuts through stagnant air
your eyes light up when you think of a dirty joke
the way your hand rests on my waist, my cheek
your voice, soft, when you say my name
when you call me
baby, darling, honey,
a hint of sarcasm in your voice,
because i never thought i’d crave such affection,
and yet
i can never get enough of you
how you whisper sweet nothings into the shell of my ear
how you hold me tight and make sure that i can feel your heart
beating in time with mine
how you’re always there, no matter what
