The World Often Forgotten
There is a world that I do not know
A world where my home is a warm embrace, not a stiff, cold bed
A place where love and nurture come first
Where I know I am cared for by someone
I care for myself in this crumpled, leaky building
The only home I’ve ever known
A building full of sorrows and heartaches
Where dreams are crushed and hope is lost
My hope was lost once I became a teenager
Who would want to adopt a teenager?
A state of mind where hopelessness steers my brain
Where I wish life could be different
I dream for the feeling of comfort
When I don’t have to constantly worry about my future
A feeling that I have never felt before
Where I hope to be some day
Maybe someday my life will change
A change from this smelly, run-down orphanage
A life where I have a family and am showered with love
Where I know I belong
