Little Red Riding Hood
I'm friends with Little Red Riding Hood
I . . . was friends with her
But the girl in Red, oh so naive
I wish she knew her surroundings better
The wolf got to her, I should've expected it
She never opened her eyes
The wolf was dishonest and harsh
The girl in Red believed his lies
I'm flourishing here for one reason
I'm suspicious of everything that lurks
There's constant anxiety all around me
My head, my mind, it all hurts
But there's a price to be paid for my safety
My sanity can wait
For years, I've been more cynical
For my hope, it's all too late
I'm mistrusting of flowers
Mistrusting of snow
Mistrusting of meadows
And the green plants that grow
There's nothing I trust
Nothing I believe
I trusted you Red
But then you left me
I see sharp, thorny flowers
And thick, acid snow
The meadows are dark
And there's dangerous growths
The berries were sweet
They were tasty and tart
But hidden poison is found
Damaging gullible hearts
There's no longer hope
For nature to change
It tried to accept it,
That things stay the same
But I'm just as gullible
No matter what I say
I'm just like you Red
And your once-foolish ways
So I'll smell the sharp flowers
I'll play with acid snow
I'll play in dark meadows
And soon I will grow
I'll be more careful
And I won't let it sting
I'll try to use gloves
So I won't feel a thing
I'm sorry dear Red
I should've soon known
Trusting others around you
You feel you're at home
I'm friends with Little Red Riding Hood
She's taught me oh so much
For now I'll stay suspicious
But I'll learn to love and trust
