Tik-Tok the Annoying Clock

“Tik-tok, tik-tok”
The sound seemed endless.
The clock trapped in a never ending cycle
around and about the center.
“Tik-tok, tik-tok”
Why won’t it stop?
Anger filled up inside of me
And I went to the clock.
“Tik-tok, tik-tok”
“Stop! Stop!” I screamed
Smash! Crack! Stomp!
“Tik-tok, tik-tooooook”
The clock just stopped.

I am a Freshman tennis player and piano player. I came up with the idea of this piece while I was experimenting with the forms of poetry and contemplating my upcoming PSAT. When my friends and I were asking older students in our high school how they felt during the test, they all said that the worst part of the test was how the only noise going on in the room was the timer. Their response inspired me to write this piece.
