power is a funny thing

it’s the secret people bury deep in their dreams

some people are born with power as their birthright

others spend their eternities trying to attain it

but that's not the power I'm after

it's the late-night city lights

the laughter and the running and the empty stadiums

because the night is harsh and so are we

the endless love that will be there even when emotions have long gone

the memories and the hope and the clarity

I could live here for an eternity

underneath the power of the sun and wind and moon and heart

whistles blowing softly in the distance

below the thrum of the rhythm

it's freedom

and freedom is power

it's the power to take control of what I do next

taking all the chances I was too afraid to

it's being reckless and saying yes without thinking ahead

and it working out anyway because it's me and how could I fail?

all you have to realize is that none of it matters

reach out to something that wants you

add value to your descension

exist in this bubble where glitter can shine in the dead of night

the art of simply not caring enough

first kisses don't have to be wonderful

it's only the last one that matters

so keep going until you find the one you want to be your last

build roots and grow trees and make juice from the fruit it grows

grow a whole grove of chances

then sit under your vine and fig trees

marvel in every single choice that belonged to you

and keep making more

that is power
