Summer Retreat
Summer Retreat
Summer times
The days long, months sweet
Summer treats
Planes, pools and cousins
Humid weather, visitors, and enticing food
It ended as soon as it started
The summer days were slowly dying
Didn’t want to return, didn’t want to go back
To the remaining memories of the last year past
To return back to the place
To the time
When I was no longer blithe
I would cry
Heart heavy, tears in the forecast of the midnight sky
To go back to the place where toxicity would await
To the place where friends were fake
Where words were no longer promises
Trust shattered
Nothing mattered
Summer was my escape
But to return in the fall
To my misery
And appall
I went back on the plane, bade farewell to the cousins
Returned to the place where I was treated like nothing
Anticipating hardship and pain
To my delight the dragons were slain
The conflict no longer remained
The summer days gifted me strength and vigor
And made me remember that with hardship comes ease
To reset my priorities
And although the past was bitter
The future was blissful
And I was healed
