Shards around me

“Guinness,”

Crushed cans and serrated edges

“Heineken,”

Intoxicating air deluges the camping grounds

“Absolut Vodka.”

The innocent wildlife succumbs to the infection

Cardinals plummet from atop a birch tree

Squirrels tumble near the flame

A blanket covers me, surrounded by its warm embrace.

The black blanket obscures a small tag,

“20d Nylon Fabric.”

A spark jumps into the air

The blanket surrounds the spark in its embrace.

5 seconds pass.

The blanket has been lit ablaze.

The blanket tightly hugs me, never letting go.

We have assimilated, becoming one with my skin

Agonizing burns encompass me whole.

I drop,

I try to toss and turn,

It’s futile, 

we are one,

The blanket and me.
