The Escapist
I wished for an escape,
I got one
Not a permanent one,
But a temporary reality,
Fake
Reality is hard,
Stressful, anxiety ridden, frustrating,
I found a escape,
I’m an escapist
Yes, it’s temporary
But it’s a vacation,
It’s home
A home
I’ve met so many more people in this reality
I have more friends in this reality
Temporarily
They are home
This reality is welcoming,
No judgment,
Encouraging,
You can do whatever you want,
Be whoever you want
This world is evanescent
It doesn’t stay,
I want it to
I don’t want to leave
I have to go back,
I’m an escapist after all,
They never leave for long,
Right back to that imprisonment,
Neither will I
But that reality will remember me,
The escapist

I wrote this poem about escaping from reality, I tried to make it as versatile as I could so people could read it the context of whatever form of escapism they might use. Personally, I use fictional books as my outlet of escapism.
