My brother was born 1 in 4 billion

My brother is case number 29

and every day that he keeps breathing he keeps breaking records.

My brother will never drive a car,

microwave his own oatmeal,

have a girlfriend,

or speak in protest.

But he is still alive.

He breathes on his own,

he can walk,

he knows the sign for i love you,

and while he functions as a toddler

he is 5’8

and he looks like my dad.

He laughs like my mom.

Even if he never gets potty trained

I'm proud of him.

My brother has lived fifteen years longer than expected.

My brother can almost do a pushup.

My brother knows the words to Perfect by Ed Sheeran

and my brother is loved.

While he will never walk on the moon,

my brother’s and Armstrong’s first steps

ripple across the universe

with the same weight.

My brother will not be valedictorian,

but making it to high school deserves

a standing ovation.

Gomez-Lopez-Hernandez syndrome,

you should update your website.

Case #29 will blow your mind.
