How Dark It Is (In the style of Brian turner “How Bright It Is”)
Winter. And the winds cold
As the fur of a polar bear.
Birds land at the bird feeder,
Pecking their beaks with huge wings
Swaying out in front of cars
In zero degree weather, dodging a bullet.
The citizens don’t walk the streets anymore,
Seeing only damage of the storm,
Bodies covered in layers, and the sky, how dark it is, how empty and quiet.
It will take many days from the community
To bring back the shine, which affects each and everything.
The wreckage buildings of the town, their loving homes,
Their now broken so freezing, in the darkness.
