Afford the Time
Every day I pay a dime;
Every day, a new situation.
I just can’t afford the time;
We don’t want to get a citation.
I have to stay between the lines;
We need to use caution.
I don’t need the crimes.
When every day starts with construction,
With time that flies.
Every day ends with destruction;
Every new thing we want to buy
Now. Too bad people have to cry
Now. Too bad I have to lie
down. Every day we pay the time;
Every day we can’t afford a dime.

This piece comes from the question of how much are you willing to pay for your time. This poem seemed to write itself out when I started to think about time and having a new day.
