My love of permanence yearns for something that lasts forever

My youthful dismembered soul is constantly disrupted by my own dolor because foolishly I am everlastingly searching for something permanent in this society of short lived affairs

So to cope i cut and dye my hair and pierce my skin because maybe then i’ll be enough to be someones forever

But instead it leads me to temporary people to gift me temporary love that i wish was enough for me.

I was a toy candle, able to be turned off and turned back on

but you somehow have blown me out forever.

-I have become something permanent.

Writing has been my outlet since I first started struggling with mental health. I chose to submit one of my poems regarding relationships because I feel that a lot of kids could relate to the feeling of feeling like you need to change yourself for someone to accept you and love you. As teens, we are constantly changing and evolving to meet other people's "standards" and I tried to exemplify how mentally draining that struggle can be.
