sunkissed
with them? i saw the sun.
shining rays through ponytails
and heated concrete walls i leaned against,
their shoulder brushing mine
when they laughed a little too hard.
i saw the sun, and everything was a little too bright
but i thought i could see them through the dark splotches.
i saw the sun with them
and in the end it turned my skin as red
as the dye in their hair.
but the sun’s been in hiding lately
and the clouds glow (like your hair does in spanish.)
the skies warm (the way i’ve been getting to know you.)
your smile isn’t unfairly bright (i don’t want to look away)
your eyes don’t radiate sharply (i can see you in them)
and nothing is a little too much
like it was with them.
