The Great Burning
The evening settles
On the backs of cuckoos.
Choked with every concealed thought,
My squeezed soul yearns to shatter
The window that separates me
From the great burning.
I stare at it, in tranquil surrender,
Ye Mighty that is about to drown
Behind this asphalt empire
But before it plunges for its descent,
It starts swallowing the day’s disgrace
In an inferno of scarlet solace.
And when it is all done,
It sprays the doomed ashes
Of silenced fate and ire
Across the sky like nightfall.
The soot intensifies
Liberating the silent cries.
And as the very first stars shine
I sigh in this blissful aftermath.
The burden of expectations
Will manifest tomorrow
But for now,
I dream
But for now,
The city sleeps.
