I can remember

Remember the dandelions

Swaying in the breeze.

The wishes I’d make on them

While eating vanilla ice cream

On a hot July day.

I can remember

The pink tank top I wore

And the sun kissing my shoulders

As I laughed and ran

My pigtails flying behind me.

I can remember

Laughter.

I see weeds

No cries of hope

Ringing through the fields

I am wearing a black scarf

Setting a rose down

And holding in tears.

I don’t hear

Laughter
