What is this creeping feeling?
The electric pulse down your spine,
The fireflies in your chest,
The scratches down your back,
The adrenaline in your veins,
The fracture in your bones,
The rip up through your muscle,
The torn side of your lip,
The blood in your eyes,

Those shadows that
Stare across the damp, hollow corners;
The abyss that stares back at you.
The water that reflects of you.
The night that falls for you.
The moon that shines for you.
The sky that storms for you.
The cyclone that spirals for you.
The fire that flares for you.
The flame that blackens for you.
The north that dawns -
All for you.

It is only but
This eerie darkness
With the uncanny noise that fills,
As silence echoes,
In the depth of those shallows dwells
That devil that lives for you,
The devil that dies for you.

The author's comments:

I wrote this poem to preserve a moment I had experienced out of the blue. It was so short-lived that I could only manage to catch it in the corner of my eye. The span it bore didn't even grant me the chance to read it while looking straight at it, eye to eye. The creature that glimpsed at me across a dark corner seemed to escape as the moment slipped before I could reach out.

It felt more appropriate to deliver the concept in a more romanticised manner.

Therefore the only fragments of the happening I could save I gave life to in these verses.
