I’ll be honest with you

I don’t think you understand what you put me through

You seemed so quiet, all alone

Then started reaching out and calling my phone

You acted so nice

Like sugar and spice

Lonely and sad

Like you needed a friend.

So I reached out

I shut out all doubt

Tried to be the best I could

Tried to show you that I understood.

But as soon as someone better

Came along and cleared the weather

You left me behind

Your words clouding my mind

“You were always annoying”

“So disappointing”

And now you’re destroying

While my anger starts boiling.

Red hot flames from my ears

I tried to be good, yet you abandoned me here!?

Then instead of ignoring me

You gave me burns of the third degree

You always bragged about how you broke free

Calling me out like a referee

Telling all your new friends

How I was the one who caused the end

Then instead of focusing on yourself

You always made me doubt myself

Always under my skin

Then the depression set in

Calling me names

Forcing me to take the blame.

Now looking back on you and me

I can see you were just a bully.

And now you’ve come back

Sorry you attacked

But it’s too late now

I hope she treated you well

When you left me for her

My worlds’ colors started to blur

And now you’re texting me again

Like all you need is a friend

Well it’s too late to be showing up at my door

That’s right, I’m a friend to you no more.

Now I’m the one who never responds

Now you’re the one who can call me gone.

And searching through the ashes, I can see

You were always just a bully.

The author's comments:

I know that when most people hear the word "bully" they think of someone being physically attacked or beaten up. But from my experience, I've found that bullies can hurt your mental health and self-esteem too. I thought that it would be important to show that bullying can come in many forms, and that at first they don't always seem like a threat.
