Back Up
A school of tuna swims in circles
A crowd rages around the block
A lump of soft hail rolls down the mountain
They follow the flapping fin in front
They hold their banners up high
They swallow up more snow and leaves
Because of winter and predators
Because of missing rights and inequality
Because of the smallest crack in the ice
Walruses float on the water surface
Churchgoers play the organ in Sunday service
Skiers slide and skid down doing somersaults
A tuna sees the shark thrust up from the abysmal sea
A line of police obstructs the marching band
A skier is alerted by the tremor from the ground
"Back up!" they yell.
Smoke and mist swiftly arise
Alongside shouts and shears and cries
The walrus yawns and purrs on the calm water
The gospel continues with heavenly voices
The earth goes round and round in space
A gigantic whirlwind of bodies scatters in every way
An onion peeled layer by layer to its epicenter
A massive purge belonging to earth's systematic cleanse
In these moments the world seems to tell you to back up.
To back them up, to back it up, to just back up.
Because the world needs to be backed up.
With your vote, with your voice, with your volunteer.
With hard-hitting facts, with groundbreaking discoveries.
With you.
But are things so crystal clear?
Are the things fought for really compulsory?
You know you can tell them to back up too.
So close your eyes and just breathe.
Listen to your own heartbeat.
Are you ready?
