The Customer

He has eyes like coffee
and cream swirling in his cup.
He doesn’t smile all that often,
but when he does it’s just as sweet
as the coffee on his lips.
He twirls a pen between his fingers
over cream-colored paper
as he sips his warm latte
that matches his skin,
soft caramel and warm espresso.
He watches the rainy morning
while he sips his coffee
and flips through a book.
He is anything but mindless
in the empty café.
