I stand still
The world stands still
My mind moves forward
My mouth is snapped shut like the heavy doors of a medieval castle
The others do not hear my thoughts begging to escape
My mind moves forward
I stand still
The world stands still
The others put on a play I dislike
My mouth will not open
The voice I once had is a voice I never had or will
The others locked up my voice in a cage that most have forgotten even existed
My mind moves forward
I dig a hole where I can lay my thoughts for others to find
The hole caves in on me
My
Mind
Races
Forward

The author's comments:

Teenagers around the world face the challenge of having their voices heard. Governments, organizations, communities, and even family members can work to squash the voices that are not consistent with the message they want to hear. This poem acknowledges this suppression while encouraging teens to keep thinking and looking for ways to express themselves.
