I want to be a princess

Colored in makeup and pretty dresses

Important and poised and destined for power

Not some angsty pariah counting life by the hour

I want to be a warrior

Have the confidence to strike first

Know how to talk to someone I like

Instead of hiding my gaze without much of a fight

I wish I were popular

No wonder you like her

Pretty and cool, can hold a conversation

I'm sure I don't even fit this generation

I want to be more interesting

Able to dance and sing

Say what I feel and mean it

Not feel like I've missed out a bit

I want to be good enough

Deserving of love

At the end of the day, I am still only me

Dreaming of things that are not meant to be

The author's comments:

I've always struggled with my image of myself, no matter what anyone says, I worry about how I come off to the rest of the world. I'm shy by nature, so when I try to stand out, I often feel shut down or like I'm too late to try and include myself.
