Scarlet Refuge

Shining knives flashed
in the dark waters
where our fears drowned,
but in the silence
of our secret refuge,
your hand traces
the scars in my flesh.
You put down
all of your weapons
in this city
doused in scarlet,
and with our hands
trained in violence,
our only sin
was not running
sooner.
