Summer's Spell
Juliette
Beautiful
Confident
She was red lipstick
A self-assured smile
She was flowy dresses
Bare feet
And her laugh
That beautiful laugh
I was head over heels
In love
The first time I heard it
Euphoric
Drunk with summer recklessness
We kissed
The sheer intensity
Of love
Of passion
That we felt
That summer
Was overwhelming
The sunny hills
Of Italy
Could not
Contain our love
I was certain
That our adoration
Of each other
Could proclaim itself
From the treetops
Every day,
Every last drop
Of summer
We soaked up
Obsessed with
The talks we had
The picnics we shared
The early morning
Races through the
Dewy grass
But good things
Never seem to last
She was gone
When autumn came
I thought of her today
Today I am married,
And happy
But still,
A simple glance at
A photograph
Sends me back
To those days
Spent by her side
Breathing her in
Intoxicated
Under the summer’s
Spell

I particularly liked this piece because I thought it accurately described a summer romance. Fleeting, and quickly over, but never truly forgotten.
