I crawled towards freedom
Ghosts of the past
Dragging me back

Every two inches
I got
I was dragged back
Three feet

One ghost was
Hate
He dragged me back
Five feet

Another was
Regret
He only slowed
Not dragging back
Not yet

Another was
Guilt
And Grief
Twin ghosts of mine
They dragged me
Back towards the darkness
Of Past

Insecurity laughed
Depression and Anxiety
Stood and watched
Judgement judged

All ghosts
Dragging me back
From my future
Towards freedom

I was held back by
Captivity
And
Memories

Darkness
Of Past
Ready to swallow me whole
As past mistakes
Threatened to return
To happen again

Tears fell to the ground
flowers sprouting
Hope showing me the way
Perseverance cheering me on
Joy shouting encouragements

I dug my shoulders
Into the dirt
Pushing on
Ignoring my ghosts
Taking Love's
Outstretched hand

Ripped out of
Past's talon's
I gasp
Relief holding me up
Hope lighting the
Rocky path

My journey
Was not over yet
And I was
A Fighter
A Survivor

Ghosts of the Past
Trailing behind
Waiting to strike once again
But I knew
I'd be okay
No matter what
