I Belong To
I belong to Summers in Japan,
And the adventures my grandmother takes me on.
I belong to family vacations that leave everyone exhausted,
But happy they went.
I belong to a family full of laughter,
Who has given me the gift of sarcasm.
I belong to a home that has encouraged me
To be whatever I feel comfortable being.
I belong to a cowardly dog,
Who is the best in the world.
I belong to a few close friends,
and all of their strange jokes and entertaining conversations.
I belong to relatives who remind me that they were there
When I was taking my first steps or saying my first word.
I belong to backgammon tournaments on the sunporch
And to nature walks with my brothers and grandmother.
I belong to old music that is always playing,
And the wrestling matches that always ended with smiles.
I belong to every little thing I know,
And I belong to the world.
I wrote this poem in English class about where I became who I am today.
