The Thoughts of a Star...

In my lifetime

of billions of years,

I’ve seen many things

through laughter and tears.

I’ve seen this crystal ball,

the one they call Earth,

change and evolve

from its very birth.

At first it was

a clump of dust.

It’s a planet, I thought,

as it developed a crust.

And after millions of years,

this planet came alive

with bright green and sparkling blue

as all things began to thrive.

Many different species,

each unique in the way it shines,

became primed for survival

by developing their minds.

But of these species,

one stood out:

one that was almost hairless,

one that stood stout.

It was curious,

resourceful, and inventive.

It seemed to have no flaws.

But then it got destructive.

It created buildings

that belched out smoke,

I thought for sure

that all would choke.

It poured chemicals,

toxins, and waste

into the ponds and rivers,

and for the worst I braced.

I looked on in horror,

as the world grew dark.

The humans were beginning

to make their mark.

I still have millions of years left

of helplessly watching this

naïve species carry on

like nothing is amiss.

But still I hope,

to this day,

that these humans

will soon change their way.

If they carry on like this,

the Earth won’t last.

Its glory days

will be in the past.

And whether the humans

believe it or not,

regardless of any

excuses they sought,

Their actions are destroying

this beautiful planet down to the core,

and the world in which they live now

will be a world that they will long for. ☆
