It started as a whisper 

Locked away in a prison of the mind

Sometimes it would mutter to itself

About all the choices made

About everything wrong

Eventually outgrowing its cage

It escaped and spread

Lies and fear and doubt

And it grew

Rampaged like an untamed beast

It broke in and stole 

Again and again

Until it chose to stay
