incoming
the roads roll out
like a welcome mat
before our travel-weary feet
shoulders aching, exhaustion
in every bone
but the sight brings life
to your dirty face.
towers of stone and glass
gleaming, under scarlet flags
snapping in the breeze--
a kingdom sprawled in the valley below
practically asking to be taken
who would suspect
that we would come
on a perfect day such as this?
the blue skies
and blooming fields;
let them believe
they are safe in the sun.
we don’t need stealth
to ensure success; we don’t hide
and wait
like common thieves.
no—we strike
when the sun is high
streaking down the mountains
with our teeth bared.
