i am alive onstage

sweaty hands holding tight,
passing energy around.
a stamp-and-salute,
a flick of a fan,
switching characters as easily
as the clothes they wore.
watching from the wings,
pride swelling in my chest.
a shared smirk no on else can see.
flying free over the whole world,
adrenaline under my wings.
heart pounding so
loud in the silence
and then
the roar of applause,
thundering in my veins.
