Rain,

Billows ouside

three years

in a purgatory state.

Now the words I've written

hit me hard

like the storm I left brewing.

Many times I tried

to see the storm.

So I could face it like them.

 

But now I can

I don't blank out

when I write my poems.

I now feel each word

as it cuts deep to my soul.

Why did I wait three years?

And now durring nights

when the pills wear off

I cry like the rain.

And with the rain.

 

As if I am the rain

that must leave the cloud

maybe the tears

must be shed

for a rainbow

of clarity

to appear.

Three years left numb.

Now the words sting us both

and not just you.

 

Now I rain on my paper

I hope the storm ends.

Because I've waited three years.

And now all my words sting.

After losing my brother, I started writing poetry. Whenever I wrote, I would blank out. I wrote this in honor of my brother, James.

The trope of rain ties the entire poem nicely together, the weight of the storm perfect imagery. I loved, "I now feel each word/as it cuts deep to my soul./Why did I wait three years?" and "Three years left numb./Now the words sting us both/and not just you" and especially the end. As @WillC2021 said, truly compelling.
