That's what a name is

You gave it

When you're little

Miracle took

Their first breath

They can return it

Maybe even exchange it

For something

That fits better

You couldn’t know who

Your little miracle would

Become so the

Gift you gave

May not fit them

The author's comments:

This poem was written out of frustration. I have to explain and remind people that my name is not the one on my birth certificate. Without my parent's approval of my gender identity making my name clear to others is difficult.

@Acee, I like this poem and I could feel your frustration throughout it...I personally know a lot of people who literally hate their names and they'll be more than glad to read your poem!!!☆☆☆
