i didn't expect to see you there
i saw you standing there
across the drive
i didn’t mean to stare
but i didn’t expect to see you there
after all this time
see, loving you was like a cool glass of lemonade on a hot summer day
smiling and wasting the hours away
night drives and outside lights
all those times you promised you’d stay
loving you was like sweet april showers
bringing may flowers
after the harsh, desolate winter of my life
where we just enjoyed the hours
and loving you was that song that you played on repeat
like the songs we played from the backseat
singing our hearts out to the music
never missing a beat
because loving you was my breath of fresh air
after i had been drowning without a care
because there was nothing to breathe for
not until i met your stare
loving you was like the much-needed rain after a dry spell
dancing in it until we heard the dinner bell
sopping wet with raindrops running down our faces and smiling all the same
there was never anything wrong between us that anyone could tell
but then the lemonade went sour
the showers flooded the flowers until they drowned without a sound
as the song you played on repeat skipped a beat
and i lost my air
as we argued in the rain
when you said you didn’t care
the raindrops turned to tears running down my face
and then you left when you promised you would stay
so i guess i'll go away
i really only wrote all this to say
i didn’t mean to stare
i just didn’t expect to see you there.
