Cantaloupe Nostalgia
Cantaloupe tastes like my mom taking me to the park when I was a kid
She would buy a container of it from the store on the way and have it
Open on the bench next to her while we played
Back and forth,
Back and forth
From the slide to the bench
From the swings to the bench
From the monkeybars, to the bench
To munch on the crisp juicy melon
Cantaloupe tastes like running around in the sprinkler with all the other kids who didn’t have a pool
It tastes like wandering a little too far off by the handball courts
Where shirtless boys cursed and blasted music
It tastes like bickering with my siblings
It tastes like throwing the bouncy ball into the bushes
It tastes like having weird conversations with kids you just met
Like grassy happiness and rubber padded glee
But it tasted better then
