Endless Misery
Nothing goes right, my life is a road on the left hand side
I’m sinking, I’m drowning in a puddle of hopeless idealization and expectations
Of childhood dreams and aspirations
That will never manifest themselves
That will never come true.
I feel trapped in a labyrinth
A dark maze through black woods
An inescapable torture,
A never-ending ordeal
One masked by a smile, a clever conceal.
My life is a ferris-wheel, but not the fun kind,
I can never leave.
I watch the world go on without me,
My presence unnoticed, unmissed
My life cycles and repeats itself,
Endless misery.

I wrote this piece in the voice of a person suffering from depression; seeking comfort, warmth and acknowledgment from someone. My hope for this is to raise awareness of depression, and mental health. In addition, I hope that after reading this, readers will reach out to those in pain.
