A New World

Moving to a whole new country,

More like moving to a whole new world.

Can’t speak or read a word of Korean,

So I’m mute like a mime and blind as a bat.

The exterior of the school seems American,

But step inside and it’s no doubt Korean.

Outside I look like them so it wasn’t supposed to be this hard,

But cracking cliques is harder than a diamond.

In class they all speak English,

But in the cafeteria the chattering and shrieking seems so foreign.

Drowning in a sea of desperation,

Can’t seem to swim ashore.

No matter how hard I try to fit in,

The rejections come like bullets.

They said things would get better,

How they lie as if they cared.

Does the future promise something better?

No one really knows.

But till then I’ll keep on trekking,

Down this dark and lonely road.
