Your Bodies Are Precious
“Your bodies are precious”
That’s all we hear
“If you don’t cover up
You won’t make it here”
My own mother tells me
My clothes are too tight
The bad people will get me
If I don’t dress “right”
When I go to school
They tell me what to think
“You better wait till marriage
And oh, think straight”
And all the kids wanna know
If you’ve lost it or not
If you haven’t, you’re boring
If you have, keep your mouth shut
Because it’s not just the adults
Shaming me for MY body
No matter what I decide to do
Everyone wants to hear “I’m sorry”
But I’m not sorry
I’m far from it
This is my choice
And I will stand up for it
And when they all wonder
About the teen pregnancy rate.
Oh well, it’s not my fault
That they couldn’t think straight.
