“However bad life may seem, there is always something you can do, and succeed at. While there’s life, there is hope.” -Stephen Hawking

I knew a part of me had changed

When I looked down and smiled at the flowers

When I looked up and realized how much I love the summer sky

There was a moment when I realized that my sadness had decreased

That life does not come without its particularities

Without woe, without insecurities

But the joy comes in knowing

That I'm no longer afraid of the dark

That I can quell my anxiety

That melody can cure any malady

In life there is downfall and demise

Deposition and degradation

But there's a point at which dawn finally breaks

And I think I have reached it

I feel that I use such trite expressions whenever I write about my happiness, phrases that I fear will grow bland, prosaic, over time. Still, it is best always to remember that happiness is a continual process and that of course we must find ways to grow comfortable with it. I find this poem nondescript compared to others that I have written, but I offer it as testimony that there is hope of a better time, that one day someone else may smile at the flowers as often as I can.
