Oh Yeah... That Decade
New band shirt for each day
blue jean baby, L.A. lady, seamstress for the band.
Flower crown
and hammer fist,
head-banging
in the starlit
convertible.
Wartimes,
waste time,
President Jerry,
cigarettes, beer,
that kid’s on dope.
Strolling to the diner
down a block.
Another rock concert,
another brick in the wall,
sweat surging,
glittering skin.
Bandanas and sunglasses,
afro and the groove.
Only good vibes.
Welcome to the
era that courses through
my veins
like a goat’s
body flows
into a mermaid’s tail.
I’m a Capricorn.
What’s your sign?

The piece was something I put into a project I did for Creative Writing at school. The project was about the 1970s, and I love the whole concept of driving around and listening to rock music, so of course I included that in my poem. Music is a huge part of who I am, and 1970s rock, head-banging type music really speaks to me as a person.
